Sacrifice

This has been quit the winter, and it's not over yet! Today our roads have drifted in again. Thankful to have a snowmobile that runs again, Derek used it to get he and the kids to work/school. The snowmobile grew smaller and smaller the further away from the house they traveled. In minus 5 degree weather they still had to get into a cold vehicle which we had parked down at the road earlier when we perceived the storm. Their travels for the morning included 17 miles to school and  another 45 minutes for Derek to get to work. This is one of the many sacrifices our family makes to live in the country. We enjoy the beauty and solace of rural living immensely, but days like today truly test us.

The Importance of Date Night

A couple years ago, my husband Derek and I set up date night with some of our friends. Every month we would take turns coming up with a plan to go on a kidless date. Last night we went out to eat at an Italian joint and then to a movie. It was nice to have social interaction, especially since my family has been snowed in for the better part of a week!  We started talking about the last time we went out for date night. It is supposed to be every month, but the last time we went out together was many months ago. Life seems to find a way of getting in the way of date night. It's hard to plan an open night  that all of us can make and find arrangements for our kids. We keep doing it though, and that's what's important. We tell our glory day stories, discuss economy, work and kids. We reconnect as couples and friends. Last night was long overdue and much needed. Long live date night!
